National golfers eye success at All Africa Challenge Trophy

TANZANIA national golf team will jet off to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe today, optimistic to shine at the forthcoming All African Golf Challenge Trophy.

The biannual continental Championship is scheduled to tee off from next Tuesday to Friday at the Elephant Hills Golf Course in Victoria Falls. Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Chairman, Joseph Tango said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the team is in a positive frame of mind and well prepared for the title challenge.

Tango said each country will be presented by four players with best of three counts at the four days 72 holes battle. He named national team members who make a trip to Zimbabwe as Captain Victor Joseph, Seif Mcharo, Amani Saidi and Richard Mtweve.

The team will be under national coach Hassan Kadio. Tango said that the team has been selected on merit, saying the selected golfers excelled at the last month’s East African Challenge Trophy. “The team has been well trained and ready to return home with top honours from Zimbabwe,” he said.

Tango added that they decided to travel early so as to get familiar with Victoria Falls weather and the course as they gear up for outstanding performance. He thanked Lugalo Golf Club’s Wazee Poa, MM, Break Fast groups and NMB Bank who made it possible for the team to travel to Zimbabwe for the competition.

National team captain, Joseph said that they are ready for the tough duel and looking forward to it. “We are well prepared and all players are in good condition, nothing will prevent us from performing well,” he said.

However, Tanzania has to make it in the presence of defending champions South Africa, Ghana, Seychelles, Mali, Nigeria, Reunion, Kenya, Namibia, Tunisia, Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Swaziland, Angola, Morocco and hosts Zimbabwe.
