ALL is set for CBA Chairman’s Trophy at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo golf club in Dar es Salaam this weekend with a bumper entry already confirmed.
The 18-hole stroke play tournament will be staged on Saturday, September 2 at the par-72 Lugalo course. Lugalo Club’s chairman Michael Luwongo told reporters in the city yesterday that preparation for the event has been completed ahead of a tee off.
Luwongo said: “Preparation is going well, the course is in a good condition to host the golf skills’ showdown.” He appealed to all golfers to come forward and participate in this year’s event. He added by also inviting fans to come and watch golfers racing for the event’s diadem.
Luwongo thanked sponsor CBA Bank who committed to support this event annually. “This is an opportunity for me as chairman to meet members and talk about other things, including various strategies to develop game and the club in general,” said the official.
Sponsors CBA Bank Marketing Manager Solomon Kawiche said they were happy to support golf because it is a wonderful game. Kawiche added: “We are supporting golf to help change notion that golf is game of rich people.
“Golf is the sport for all, good for the health since it reduces stress. It also serves as perfect platform for business networks,” said Kawiche. Meanwhile Lugalo Captain Japhet Masai said that the tournament is open for amateur in men’s divisions, ladies and juniors.
He said that professional golfers are also invited, but they will play in three clubs format only and will also have to return not over 80 gross strokes. He said that the deadline for those wishing to take part in the tournament is tomorrow afternoon.
