THE National Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr Tulia Ackson today officially graces Ruvuma half marathon race in Namtumbo, Ruvuma today The 21km race is the charity event meant to raise funds for the construction of a hospital in Namtumbo District.
It is organized by Namtumbo District Commissioner (DC) Luckiness Amlima and sponsored by Uranium One and Mantra Tanzania Companies Limited. Various political and national leaders are also expected to join to the fundraising event including the Athletics Tanzania (AT) President Anthony Mtaka, four Members of the Parliament (MPs) from Ruvuma Region including Joseph Mhagama, Edwin Ngonyani, Sixtus Mapunda and Daim Mpakate.
The overall winners (men and women) of the half marathon will be awarded medals, tablets and a television set each. The marathon will start at Namtumbo District Commissioner (DC) office and climax at Namtumbo District Hospital.
Briefing on the rave in Songea yesterday, an official from Uranium One, Khadija Pallangyo promised to continue backing the race in a close cooperation with Namtumbo District Council, Athletics Tanzania Federation to fundraise necessary amounts to complete the construction of District Hospital, will serve over 200,000 people from various communities in the district. The fund-raising race is aimed at contributing over 1.2bn/- that will enable a completion of the district hospital building.
“The proposed hospital building is expected to benefit over 200,000 people inside and outside the district,” she said. ‘‘Construction of the Hospital is the primary goal of the half marathon race, which itself is a unifying event that unites all people residing in the district as well as cementing friendship and sportsmanship,” she said.
The newly equipped hospital will alleviate challenges facing pregnant mothers and children who need immediate care.
