OVER 80 golfers confirmed participation in the 2017 Moshi Open Championship ahead of its official flag off this weekend in Kilimanjaro.
This year’s event, according to the organisers, is scheduled to tee off on July 15 and 16 at Moshi Gymkhana Club, Kilimanjaro drawing golfers from Tanzania and Kenya. Organised by Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), the tournament also invites professional golfers who will play in the two-day event on July 14th and 15th.
According to Chris Martin, the Vice- Chairman of TGU told the ‘Daily News’ from Moshi yesterday that preparation for the event has been finalised and everything is on place.
He thanked the event’s main sponsor, Insurance Group of Tanzania (IGT) and co-sponsor Bonite Bottlers for rescuing the championship after the withdrawal of its previous sponsor, National Housing Corporation (NHC) withdrew at last moment.
Martin said: “I want to thank our sponsors for coming to rescue the event within a short notice. He assured sponsors and golfers a well-organised and a successful event.
Martin said that golf ers are coming from Moshi club, Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf, Dar Gymkhana, Morogoro Gymkhana, Mufindi Golf Club, TPC, Kili Golf, Arusha Gymkhana and Railway Golf Club of Nairobi, Kenya. `He said Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC), Ms Anna Mgwhira, who according to club constitution is club Matron will be chief quest at the Sunday presentation ceremony.
However, Martin pointed out that competition is likely to be tough as hosts are in intensive preparation looking forward to to ensure the top proze remains in Kilimanjaro.
