ARUSHA based driver Gurpal Sandhu is scheduled to be the first off ramp ahead of 16 other drivers in the National Rally Championship (NRC) in Tanga that flags off today.
He will be followed by other seeded drivers Randip Birdi, Dharam Pandya and Samir Nahdi Shanto in the list respectively. A total of 17 drivers have been officially confirmed to compete in the fourth round of the NRC.
The cars, according to Twalib Hatibu, the event’s safety officer, attended scrutineering (inspection) exercise at Mkwabi Super market in Tanga on Friday.
The notable entries, according to the officer, include Dharam Pandya, Randeep Birdi who are top-placed drivers in this year’s seeding points table and Gurpal Sandhu, also among the country’s outstanding drivers.
Sameer Nahdi Shanto who is a member of the Stado Rally Team has confirmed participation after two others; Ahmed Huwel, and Davis Mosha opted not to compete.
Pandya, who will be navigated by Awadh Bafadhil in Puma Energy backed Subaru NR4, said he was sure of a first place this time around Hosts Tanga will be led by Muheza-based veteran driver, Saidi Baghoza.
Baghoza, who has been active in motor rally since 2003, said he will be in charge of the youthful team that aims to ensure the top title remains in Tanga.
Speaking on the good response from the hosts, Twalib Hatib, an official from Tanga Motor Sports Club, the event’s organisers, said there are three who have shown remarkable development in rallying.
He said Tanga team will be led by Baghoza and will be assisted by Aliasger Papu. Others making a formidable team include Shane Abbas, Naim Ashery and Ashur Ramzan. “All five are good drivers and I am sure they will be very hard to beat at home,” said Hatibu who also serves as the rally’s safety control officer.
