PERMANENT Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Adelhelm Meru has retired from public service after 37 years of service at different capacities.
Dr Meru who is an expert of industries and investments turned 60 years old on Wednesday last week. He was appointed to the post by President John Magufuli in December 2015, the post held until his retirement age.
Speaking during a farewell party in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Charles Mwijage apart from congratulating Dr Meru for safe retirement, he acknowledged his commitment towards implementation of industrial development policy.
“Everyone of us know that the government has put its muscle on reviving industries as a requisite geared towards building a mid-sized economy by 2025,” Mr Mwijage said, praising Dr Meru for pioneering the drive.
Dr Meru thanked the minister and all staff for the support and cooperation they gave him performs his work diligently. Dr Meru also thanked President Magufuli for his trust and confidence bestowed on him, saying during his life in office he got the maximum working cooperation and support.
Before appointment to the PS in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Meru was the PS in the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources. He also worked with NECO, Kilimanjaro Machine Tools under National Development Corporation (NDC), Director General of Vocational and educational Training Authority (VETA), Director General of EPZA and Advisor of Car & General (Kenya) Ltd.
