TANZANIAN golfers continue to stamp authority in Uganda Ladies Open after Angel Eaton’s superb display in this year’s round held at Kitante Golf course in Kampala.

Eaton who has won two previous rounds at the same venue, was the event’s overall winner while her compatriot, Madina Iddi finished third overall in the tournament that drew the best Lady golfers from East and Central Africa.

“I am happy to win again in Kampala despite facing stiff opposition, especially from Ugandan players,” she said after winning. Eaton thanked TPDF Lugalo Club for sponsoring her and other golfers’ trip to Kampala, which said was very rewarding.

Based in Dar es Salaam, Eaton won the tournament after grossing 235 total strokes in the 54-hole three day tournament that attracted players from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Nigeria.

The host, Nakalembe Irene finished the runner up with 237 total gross strokes, just one stroke above Tanzanian Madina Iddi who grossed 238 strokes. Madina who was one of the only two golfers from Arusha Gymkhana Club said she was satisfied with her performance and promised to win the trophy in the next year event.

Kenyan Nyakio Agnes was fourth overall winner after grossing 239 and defeated Ugandan Kyomugisha Meron who penned 242 strokes by three shots. The host, Namanda Joelia was decorated as the event’s net winner after returning 212 score.

Tanzania sent the ’15-women team in this year’s event in 75th Edition of the annual tournament that officially teed off from September 7 to 9 at the Uganda Golf Club. Eaton, two-time winner, has now won the event three times.

The other Tanzanian players: Ayne Magombe, Hawa Wanyenche, Sarah Denis, Sophia Mathias, Tanya William, Mwanaidi Ally, Chiku Elias, Rehema Athumani, Habiba Juma, Habiba Sanze, Madina Iddi, Neema Olomi and Lina Francis.

The host Uganda banked on their inform Irene Nakalembe after the defending champion Flavia Namakula turned professional. Nakalembe, a Handicap 5 player, finished second overall behind Eaton.
