Tanga mounts sanitation campaign to combat cholera

WITH the recent outbreak of the deadly cholera in the country, Tanga regional authorities have called on various stakeholders to be in the frontline to assist in environmental cleanliness campaigns to restores the region’s cleanliness and greenery status.

Tanga Regional Commissioner, Mr Said Magalula, said over the weekend that improving sanitation in the region and other parts of the country could not be achieved by the government’s efforts only thus private sector has a vital role to play as well.

“We have many challenges in keeping the city clean, which the municipality cannot manage to address on its own,” said Mr Magalula, adding that insanitary-related diseases can only be controlled through join efforts from members of the community.

The RC pointed out that with his region currently housing a number of people from every corner of the country and outside, sanitation was one of the areas which, if fully paid attention to, would help the region combat cholera.

Mr Magalula was speaking here after receiving various equipment to facilitate in the cleanliness campaign, including wheelbarrows donated by local telecom firm, Zantel Tanzania.

The RC said he was pleased with the donation as it would go to directly solving one of the challenges in keeping the city clean.

He appealed to other companies in the country to extend a helping hand and support environmental cleanliness campaigns.

The company’s Government Relations Officer, Mr Charles Jutta, said the donation aimed at ensuring the region restored its sanitary and greenery status.

“We are proud of our progress in improving the environment and ensuring the well-being of our society since our vision is to see a safer and cleaner world, not only in the environment in which we operating, but also in conserving the environment for future generations,” said Mr Jutta.
